Parent Information Evening

Parent Information Evening was a great night and we would like to thank you all for coming along on the night. We hope we were able to answer some of your questions about what is happening in the Senior Unit.

Here is a recap of the night:

The night began in the Undercroft. The teachers and staff were introduced to the school community.
The presentation was about the changes that are happening around the school this year.
Points of Note:
- The Senior Unit is now located in the Resource centre. The old Senior Unit building is gone.
- The Library is now up in the house purchased last year on East Terrace.
- Assembly is on Wednesday afternoons on even weeks this term and not Monday mornings
- School Newsletters and Bulletins will be all digital this year.
- Parents and Friends meeting will be held on Wednesday February 5th at 7.00pm in the Undercroft. everyone is invited to come along and join in.
- Kids Matter was discussed as a direction for this year. You will hear more about this as the year progresses. You can check out the website http://www.kidsmatter.edu.au/ for more information

In the Senior Unit information session we discussed a range of topics:
- We talked about expectations, responsibilities and leadership
- We showed this clip as inspiration for the children and during our information session which can be found here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l-gQLqv9f4o
- Learning at Home was another topic. We talked through expectations and the Learning at Home sheet.
- Camp - Surfquatics for this year. In the last week of term. More information to come.
- Cybersaftey and the use of ICT devices. Things of note here were:
* there will be 64 laptops and 32 iPads in the Senior Unit area.
* devices will stay at school at the present
* opportunities will be made for children to use devices before and after school. More information to come.
- Some clips were shown about cyber issues and safety. More information can be found here http://www.acma.gov.au/Citizen/Stay-protected/My-kids-and-media and here http://www.cybersmart.gov.au/

Time ran out on the night but you are always welcome to come and talk to us to find out more. We look forward to meeting everyone again during meetings over the next couple of weeks.

  1. I think it's great that technology is being introduced for everyone.
Between that and the introduction of kidsmatter, I think is going to be a great year for the senior unit.
    Well done everyone!
